The Best Way to Mod Your Games with Vortex: Where Does Vortex Store Mods and How to Use Them

The data collected and sent to our team is completely anonymous. No personally Identifiable information (PII) is collected or sent. Your screen is not being recorded, nor does this collect any data on what mods you are using.

What is Vortex Mod Manager? If you have searched for fixing issues with the famous Nexus Mod Manager, you might have seen this question in the solution. The VMM is the latest version of the NMM for storing and modifying the mods of the game files. Now you might have a few questions like Where does Vortex store mods or how to use Vortex Mod Manager. The article has the answers to all these questions, however, before that, we will gain a little insight into the VMM and discuss on Vortex Mod Manager download in this article.

Where Does Vortex Store Mods

The article explains about how to download Vortex Mod Manager and addresses the questions of what is Vortex Mod Manager, where does Vortex store Mods, and how to use Vortex Mod Manager. Please leave your valuable suggestions and queries on VMM in the comments section.

Alternatively, there's also Mod Organizer 2, which offers more advanced functionality than Vortex does but is also a bit more complicated to learn and get comfortable with. It's the better choice if you want to play Skyrim Together Reborn with hundreds of mods installed (we'll go over why you may want to avoid doing this later) since it's better at resolving mod conflicts and other issues, but if you're just aiming for a simple vanilla-style experience, Vortex is ideal.

I've owned 3 yes, Three of these, one was never canceled from another store. It's a shame the gas piston doesn't hold up. Next time HATSAN. Please, spend a little longer time on R&D. I have three other model HATSANS never any problems only this particular model HATSAN 135 QE!.

The most popular mods on Steam Workshop are habitats. Modders create unique habitats and stores for different themes and animals. These can be animal structures made for different species' specific needs like climbing, pretty kiosks for customer use, or extravagant decorations for all-around use.

Most mods for Planet Zoo on Nexus Mods are new animal species. It will be hard to do anything else, as this is where animal mods are most frequent as opposed to large structures from Steam Workshop. If you have a favorite type of animal that isn't in Planet Zoo or that you need to purchase DLC for, Nexus Mods has got your back.

Click here if you want to know where to find Skyrim mods. We recommend that you download Skyrim mods from Steam, or Nexus, as these two are home to some of the best (not to mention the most trustworthy) mods out there.

The next step is to create two folders: Installed Mods and New Mods. The Installed folder is where you keep all the mods that your copy of Skyrim is currently running, while the New Mod folder should contain the mods that you have yet to install. It would also be a good idea to keep a backup folder somewhere away from your main Skyrim folder, just in case something goes wrong and you need to roll back any changes you made without having to re-install the whole game.

You can launch with mods with the Launch (modded) button in r2modman, or Launch (vanilla) to play without mods. If you launch from your game store launcher or from the Outward.exe directly then it will not launch with mods.

The Data Files folder (or just data folder) is where all of the data that the game uses is stored. That's the music, textures, meshes, etc. This is also where all mods are installed, and where their data (again the meshes, textures, music, etc) is stored.

This is where you activate and deactivate mods (and the expansions if you wanted). Activating a mod is simply telling the game that you would like it to be loaded. So if you were to uncheck Bloodmoon.esm then when you next go to play Morrowind, Bloodmoon will not be loaded. You may find that Better Bodies.esp has not been checked, while the others have. If that's the case then check it.

As mentioned, a mod manager will make your life much easier when using mods. As a beginner I recommend using the Nexus Mod Manager, while it doesn't have any of the advanced features found with something like Wrye Mash, it more than makes up for it by being simpler to use for a beginner. Plus, because it's tied with NexusMods you can click the Download with manager button on most mod download pages to let NMM do the downloading for you. Visit the Mod Manager page for more info on other managers.

Get NMM from here. There are currently two versions of Nexus Mod Manager: version 0.51.0 and Legacy. Version 0.51.0 is built with the .NET Framework 4.5, which is not available to Windows XP users. This is who the Legacy version is aimed at. If you do have Windows Vista/7/8 then I do recommend getting 0.51.0 as this is the version that is continually receiving updates. When you have installed NMM, it will go through a first time setup where it scans your computer for any of the games that it's compatible with. After that it will ask where you would like it to keep the mods. I would stick with the default for now.

There are two tabs in NMM: Plugins, and Mods. The plugins tab is essentially the Data Files section in Morrowind's launcher, but for the added feature of being able to modify the load order. Meanwhile, the mods tab is where all of the mods that you have (both active and inactive) are listed. When you first download a mod, you will find it here. NMM does not automatically install the mod, instead you need to select it from this list and click the activate button. NMM will then automatically perform the installation process that you would have had to do manually. Then you can return to the plugins tab, and activate the mod just like you would have done in the launcher.

Unfortunately, some mods have not been packaged in the format that NMM needs to be able to install it correctly. This is not the fault of the mod author as mod managers were never (or at least rarely) used anywhere near as much as they have been with Oblivion and Skyrim. In the event that a mod is not installing correctly with NMM, then you will need to perform a manual installation. If you have not yet done so, read the above section on manually installing mods.
